Vouziers, in between Argonne and Champagne
Vouziers is situated at the siltbanks of the Aisne, with his moist grounds, and just a few kilometers westerly of Bourcq which is neighbouring the champagne area. A region with a lot of agriculture : grain, beet and luzerne.
The siltbanks of the Aisne and the Aire, but also in the eastern part of the Argonneare for stockbreeding and dairy farming.
Two totaly different kinds of agriculture that live together each on one side of the Aisne. They created and shaped the landscape, formed the villages and provided the people a good living.
The future of agriculture activity is related to the development of the european PAC (Political Collective Agriculture) and the development of industrial strategy.

Champagne-Cereales is the largest french co-operative and the most important one in Europe. The main office is settled in Reims in the centre of four regions. From Givet in the north till Neufchateau in the Vosges in the south. It covers the area of the Marne, the Valley of the Meuse, the Haute-Marne and the Vosges.
Vouziers lies in the centre of a region that count 5 silo's.

In Vouziers there are 2 silo's, each one at one side of the river of Aisne. There is the silo Saint Paul (9000 ton) that is situated in a characteristic building next to the milkplant with the same name. Facing in there is the most modern silo of the region with a capacity of 10.000 ton which is being provided through a railroad.
In Vouziers the co-operative fulfils 3 fonctions :

To collect the grain into the silo

To provide the agricultures of seads, fertilizer, products for the health of the vegetation, feed, fuel, oil, hardware (barbed wire, iron wire etc...)

To guide and give tecnical advice to the members of the co-operative

First European dehydration plant
On a plain with 900 producers of lucerne, maize, corncobs, and beet, that is to say 180000 tons of granules
In a factory with driers, energy economisers, 12 presses,... an average production of 1250 tons a day with 360000 litres of water evaporated per hour.
With the dried lucernes supplying every need of cattle (milk, meat and breeding herds), sheep and goats

The Challerange factory is a specialist in the manufacture of MILK POWDER, thanks to 390 producers.
Per day some 420000 litres of milk are treated to obtain 65 tons of powder.
100% of production is exported to :
Algeria, Angola, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, the Lebanon, Malaysia, Senegal. |
